TYPES OF WORK

There are a lot of available options when it comes to making some money online.  Some more complicated than others and some more effective than others.  It really depends on your preference, how much money you want to make, and how much time and effort you can afford to put in.  In my first couple of years at university my timetable consisted of less than 10 hours a week (and then there was the classes I never attended…).  I wasted most of my time on my laptop browsing online and chatting on instant messenger – hours that could have easily been put to better use.  Even if you have only a couple of hours a week to spare – doesn’t even an extra £10 a week seem appealing?

Here are brief descriptions of the most popular ways of making money online:

  • Paid surveys – there are plenty of paid survey websites which are always looking for new members.  All you have to do is signup (usually for free) and fill in their surveys.  Companies these days spend massive amounts on market research so are willing to pay for your opinion on their new product/service.  It can be quite time-consuming but surveys are usually no longer than 15 minutes and you can choose how many you want to complete.  Some survey sites offer a points system with vouchers and gifts instead of cash.  For examples of survey sites see our paid surveys section.
  • Paid blogging – writing blogs and getting paid to do so is an attractive option for individuals who enjoy writing via the internet.  The hardest part is finding something interesting to write a blog on.  Some sites will pay you to blog for them or you can make your own website to publish your blogs.
  • Data entry – due to technology these days companies are able to outsource general administration via the internet.    Often, it can be hard to find legitimate data entry jobs and some companies put you through difficult testing before you are accepted.  However, if you experienced with admin work you may wish to pursue this.
  • eBay wholesaling – this involves buying goods at wholesaler prices and re-selling them to make a profit.  There is huge potential for making money in this manner – the hardest task is choosing a successful product to sell on the market on eBay.  It requires more time and commitment than most other methods.
  • Investing online – this is basically the purchasing and selling shares online to make a profit.  There is software available to do it all for you if you are clueless about stock markets and, potentially, there are high profits to be earned if done correctly.  This may interest you if you are a finance or business student as you will enjoy it which is an important aspect of earning.
  • Affiliate marketing – the writing of adds to sell company’s products for a rate of commission.  Possibly the most used technique to earn income online – you simply write an add for a company and when people purchase it from viewing your advert you receive a commission.
  • Online gambling – there is potential to make a lot of money from online gambling if you know what your doing.  To find out more see our section on gambling.
  • Article writing – writing quality articles and posting them on either your own or another website.   By publishing your article on the internet, your words could be seen by a far wider and larger audience and earn you far more money over a longer period of time.  This is mainly used by experienced individuals who can attract a large audience by writing about specialized subjects.
