OTHER WAYS

  • Sell any unwanted belongings on ebay.  Do you have any cds or dvds you don’t use anymore?  Or old clothes?  This could provide a reasonable amount of money and gets rid of clutter you don’t need anymore.  Because of such high textbook costs, there is quite a high demand for second hand books and Amazon will allow you to sell them to others.
  • Life modelling.  It pays well and may be an option if you wouldn’t mind doing it.
  • Companies will pay you cash to advertise their adverts on your car.  It is an effective way to raise a lump sum of cash quickly.
  • Sperm/egg donation – this isn’t for everyone but, again, is another option some people may consider.  Find out more by visiting your fertility centre or hospital.
  • Withdraw the maximum interest free overdraft from your student account and transfer it into a high interest account.
  • Home-cooking and bulk buying are popular and effective ways for saving money as a student.
  • Go to a supermarket and the end of night or before it closes.  All the perishables are marked down to very low prices.
  • Don’t be lazy and walk.  You would be surprised at how much money you would save if you walked instead of took the car/bus.
  • Cut down your drinking.  Its not a popular way to save money, but it certainly works
